3 Keys to Feeling More ALIVE...So You Stop Robbing Yourself of Joy

You know 'that' incredible feeling – you feel creative; ideas flow naturally; your body feels expansive and open; you have hope, faith, and courage and everything you do is a success; you feel love all around; you desire to dance or sing for no particular reason; your writing flows; you and your clients are in perfect harmony, coming up with solutions with ease; you feel...alive.

Pretty awesome feeling, right? Unfortunately, many women entrepreneurs unknowingly rob themselves of feeling alive because they allow other things to get in their way—like getting stuck in being overly ambitious or putting too much pressure on themselves to be multiple steps ahead of where they are currently. This makes sense considering women in business today are highly ambitious, visionary spirits dedicated and focused to making a difference through their work, while having their ultimate ideal life. (family, health, travel, financial security, etc.)

This is particularly true for you as a 'Creative'—coach, healer, strategist, designer, trainer, nutritionist, and so on. You want to know everything (because you know anything is possible); you have tons of ideas (what Creative doesn't); and you desire to be at a certain place in your life, in your business or with your finances...and now. And when these things don't happen fast enough or 'good enough,' you end up generating low level emotions that make you feel crummy and that rob you of truly enjoying what you know you're here to do—in your life and in your work.

Here's the problem when it comes to your business. When these low level emotions happen...
  • you begin to attract clients who are less than ideal to work with
  • you feel stuck (really stuck) on how to get to 'that next level' in your business
  • clients don't sign up with you or purchase your products...and you don't know why
  • you feel you SHOULD be successfully marketing like everyone else, but you just don't feel ready because they are others things you have to do first
  • you undercharge for your services and over-deliver
  • you stumble on your words when expressing what you do and how much you charge
  • you find that the money that you do make...is quickly spent
  • and you feel that things just aren't where they should be

Talk about sucking the joy and fun out of what you know you LOVE to do in your business. You know you've come to this life to make a huge positive difference through your work, but making things happen is getting tiring, frustrating, and sometimes down-right depressing.

So, here are 3 keys to shine a little light on how to start feeling more alive again.... so, you can put the flow back in your business (and life).
(Feel free to add your own keys in the comments section below.)

1. Be Open. Remember, you don't have to know everything or have accomplished everything that you set out to do, you just have to be open to letting in the idea of what's possible and then take ONE step at a time. Be open to getting help; be open to new ideas; be open to being in a place of discomfort momentarily as you move to the next level of your business.

2. Have Faith. Be willing to take the steps that feel scary and uncomfortable. You need to hold faith that each step that you take toward your goal of living life purposefully, doing the work that you want to do for others and having the life that you desire for yourself is possible and happening every moment of every day. You have to believe that each step is the right one.

3. Use Your Imagination to Begin Creating the Reality You Desire. Imagine for a moment that each moment and each experience is meant for you to advance to a higher version of yourself (where you are more joyful, creative, and inspired). Imagine how each experience and each person who comes into your life helps you learn more fully what you're here to learn and what you're here to do and to help you get closer to total alignment with all that you desire to create.

Imagine for a moment—where you are right now—sitting in your chair reading this, what that ultimate life and ultimate business looks like for you. What are you doing? Who are you working with? What does it feel like to have the freedom to be doing this work and seeing the results from your work?

What is it that truly makes you feel 'alive'?

Get Unstuck (NOW) and Move Your Business Forward...No Matter What

Many entrepreneurs make the choice each daywhether they're aware of it or notto stay at the same dissatisfying place. This is especially true for women entrepreneurs who deeply desire to make a difference through their work, yet they fear stepping forward in one way or another to take the action needed to start, grow, or revive their business.

They stay stuck by believing that they're not capable of having what they want; or they believe that 'time' holds them back because they have to do other things first before moving forward and making money; or they feel caught in a catch-22 style paradoxtheir current situation is needing to make money in their business and to do this, they need to invest money in mentorship, knowledge, and training. So, they have to invest money that they're not yet making in order to make money. Sound familiar?

And while it's understandable that these feelings of fear and unease come upthey do for EVERY heart-centered woman coach and consultant taking steps toward the next highest version of herselfif you really want to start your business, grow your business, or stay in business (!) and help the people you know you're in this life to help, you have to find a way to make what you want happen (and you can...and will).

Would you like to know the ONE simple thing that I did when I was in a place of feeling that I couldn't move my business forward for financial and time reasons?

Here it is: I took courageous action.

Well, actually it was more like: 1) I listened to that strong yearning inside of me for 'something more;' 2) I stayed in full faith that whatever decision I made was going to be the right one; 3) I took a gulp; and 4) I took courageous action by making a generous investment in myself and the growth of my business. (by the way, it was the right decision ;)

You have to be willing to put it out to the Universe that you're ready for more and then take the actions to show that you're ready for more.

Begin by exploring what is really holding you back and you'll often find that when it comes right down to it, it's not the money, time, or knowledge; it's simply fear of the unknown. When you desire to move forward, thoughts come up of, “what if I invest in this program or product and I fail to get results; what if something comes up personally and I can't follow through; what if I'm not able to accomplish what others have accomplished (what if I am the exception); my situation is different and it's easier for others and harder for me.” Do any of these sound familiar?

Here's one question that I invite you to answer right now with me today... “Is my desire for more in my life and business greater than my fear to take action?”

When you realize that your passion and faith is greater than your fear, you're ready to move forward and create the life you envision doing the work you're here to do. What's more empowering than being the constant creator of your life?

Get Better Results by Starting from Where You Are

Do you want...more?
The women who come to me are at a place in their life and business where they want more. They want more time with their family; they want more time for themselves (imagine that!); they want their business to bring in more income; they want to feel more fulfilled doing what they love, helping to transform the lives of their clients and make the difference they are meant to make.

They have tried marketing their business; they've tried going out and meeting people; they've tried social media; they've created a website and now want people to actually visit it and contact them... sound familiar?

It's overwhelming to think about all those things that you need to do in your business to get it to...well... FLOW.

So, where do you start?

The simplest answer is to... start where you are.

If you're like my clients...
  • You've been in business for a number of years and you're exceptional at what you do, but no one knows it (meaning, an inconsistent flow of clients)
  • You like doing things your way and on your own, but you're not getting the results you know are possible
  • You want to increase your income and you know it's possible, but you're already working as hard as you possibly can and you're not willing to giving up the other things that you enjoy

So then, how do you close the gap between where you are now and where you want to be?

Here is 1 essential tip as well as some key action steps to help you get better results by 'starting where you are'...

ESSENTIAL TIP: Know where you are! Yes, this sounds like a no-brainer, however, I know from my own experiences and from my highly creative coaches and colleagues that our natural tendency is to want to be three steps ahead.

Even for my clients who have been in business for 20+ years, they need to re-evaluate where their business is at. Knowing where you are has nothing to do with how much you know or how many years you've been in business; it has to do with what stage your business is at.

Even for women who have been in business for a number of years, they need to review what they are a stand for in their business, who their clients are, and what uniquely sets them apart, which are all parts of the core phase of branding their business, so they can get better results, faster from their marketing.

'Take Action Today' Step: Write a short list of the primary challenges you're currently having in your business. Be completely honest as you write this list. This is going to help you know where you are right now and help you with the next action step, which is determining what you need, to overcome these challenges and take your business to where you want it to be.

For example, if you write, “my primary challenge is telling potential clients clearly what I do and how I help them,” then your next step is to write down what resources you'll need, what steps you'll need to take, and/or who you'll need to contact to help you learn how to clearly express what you do, so you can start getting more clients and making the difference you're meant to make.

Bonus tip: Be specific. Don't write “my primary challenge is money;” Almost everyone I talk to has a challenge with money in one form or another; whether it relates to how to charge and price their services; whether they're currently making money or not; whether they fear investing in their business because of the 'what if' beliefs that surface... “what if I fail?” “what if I don't get clients?”...

Bonus, bonus tip: Once you have your list of your primary challenges and the resources or people you'll need to move you and your business forward, take action... research those resources and contact those people... explore what's possible for you, so you can take your business to where you want it to be.

When you know where you are and what steps and actions you need to take (and of course take those steps), you'll find you'll quickly get better results.

A big part of what I do is I empower entrepreneurs to unearth their excellence as the leader of their business and take courageous action toward their goals. Because when you know deep within yourself that there's more you're meant to do and more you're meant to help your clients to achieve, you know the only option is to take action.

7 Simple Steps to Marketing Success (Part Two)

Part One of the 7 Simple Steps to Marketing Success:
1. Create Your Vision
2. Uncover Your Personal Brand Influence
3. Prepare Your Business Model

Here are four more steps to marketing success to help you prepare before the New Year!

7 Simple Steps to Marketing Success (Part Two)

4. Get to Know Your 'Model' Client
Imagine your 'perfect' client. What characteristics and attributes would he/she have? Describe your ideal working relationship. What does that look like? You'll also want to describe their primary obstacles, concerns, fears, dreams, and desires. The more detailed you can get when it comes to who your 'model' client is, the easier and more effective your marketing.

5. Outline Your Results
Next, write out ALL the results that you can think of that your clients get from working with you. These results can include personal as well as professional results. How does your work positively impact your clients? Does it help them achieve better health? Financial security? Find and keep more loving relationships? Write down as many results as possible. This will help you get clear on what you offer to clients and how to express what you offer in your marketing messages.

6. Determine Your Marketing Tools
There are many tools to choose from and it can be difficult and overwhelming trying to decide which tools to use. Ask yourself: Is it best to use online tools to reach out to potential clients? Network in person? Call or e-mail people directly?
To start determining this, you want to take a look at who your clients are and what they want, like we did in the previous two steps, then you want to brainstorm places where your 'model' clients can be found and then create your plan for reaching out to them.
The key is consistency. Decide on a few marketing tools/methods and then schedule out time where you will consistently use these tools each day or every few days a week. This will help to market your business, build your credibility, and inspire people to want to learn more from you and what you have to offer.

7. Create a 'Comfortable Home'
When you begin implementing marketing tools and methods, you want to make sure that you are including a strategic call to action, such as having people click to your website or blog for more information or to contact you. For this reason, it is essential to have a 'comfortable home' on the web (i.e. website or blog).
Your website/blog works to market your business and express your brand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When visitors land on your website, you want them to feel welcome and know they are in the right place! To do this, your website must clearly express your brand, what you offer and to whom, and what action you want people to take when they get there.

7 Simple Steps to Marketing Success (Part One)

Ahh, can you feel the magic of the holidays just around the corner!? I know I do. For me, it's a time to shop for toys and goodies for family and friends, find fun ways to wrap gifts, and of course enjoy the spirit of sharing time with loved ones and the joy (and craziness :)) that it brings.

And while I truly love the holiday season, there's also one thing that also lingers in my mind as I talk more and more with my clients and other entrepreneurs I meet...

This time of year can also bring stress and overwhelm as business tends to slow down for many entrepreneurs and small business owners and with that brings a twinge of unease and worry trying to figure out the best way to prepare (and have time to relax) before the New Year.

It is for this reason that I wanted to create some tips and techniques that my clients and contacts can use immediately that don't take a ton of time, but are highly effective.

Below is Part One of "7 Simple Steps to Marketing Success," which gives you some powerful tips on building/enhancing the foundation for your marketing. For detailed marketing techniques you can implement before January 1, 2011, you'll want to check out my fr.e.e video training series available through December.

7 Simple Steps to Marketing Success (Part One)

    1. Create Your Vision
I used to be a vision board skeptic. A couple of years ago, I worked with a mentor who encouraged me to create a vision board. Now, being someone who likes to take purposeful action and get results fast, I wondered to myself how creating a vision board would be a good use of my time.
Don't get me wrong, I know the importance of having a clear vision in life and in business and it is part of what I coach my brand clients on, but for some reason, there was a disconnect between the creation of a vision board and a greater purpose for it. (And there always has to be a purpose to the steps and strategies that I implement and have my clients implement to get the best results possible in business.)
This year with the encouragement of a highly successful business coach, I decided to try a vision board. To my surprise, it not only was enjoyable to create, but after creating it and putting it in a place where I can view it each day, I began to see how opportunities were beginning to open up for me to make my vision a reality. It has been the same experience for the highly successful entrepreneurs I know... seems unreal, I know... but it just begins to happen.

    2. Uncover Your Personal Brand Influence
Everyone has a personal brand influence. Using your unique personal brand influence helps you easily stand out from others at events, gatherings, and just about anywhere you go. It can be your best guide to prioritizing and making decisions, so that you are always in alignment with your brand and the purpose for your business. When you know and express your Personal Brand Influence, you become more of who you are and others are attracted to working, partnering, purchasing from and investing in someone who knows what they stand for and how they make a difference in the world.
Begin discovering your personal brand influence by creating a clear, concise statement that immediately resonates with their audience and instantly communicates the value of the who, what, and why of what they do.

    3. Prepare Your Business Model
What is your business made up of? Workshops, retreats, group programs, 1-on-1 programs, tele-classes...? Determine a few key areas from which you want to create your income and then determine what percentage of your income resonates from those areas. When you know what you want your business to be made up of, you're able to focus on specific tasks and create your timeline for your offers and marketing.

In Part Two of the 7 Simple Steps to Marketing Success, I'll share with you 4 more essentials to getting clear and taking action!
